If you’re thinking about cutting the cord in favor of using streaming services, one of the things you might be wondering is how you can watch local channels without cable.

For many people, antennas are a solid option, but they don’t work for everyone. And frankly, some people just don’t like the hassle of using an antenna or of switching back and forth between inputs for antenna channels and streaming.

One of the most popular cable TV alternatives for streaming live TV is Sling TV. With Sling TV, you get many of the most popular cable channels, from ESPN to CNN to HGTV and more, streaming live to your device.

But what about your locals? Which Sling TV local channels can you expect to get when you sign up?

Read on to learn more about streaming local channels with Sling TV.

Which Sling TV Local Channels Can You Stream?

While Sling TV is one of the best ways to get popular national cable channels, the truth is its local channel selection for streaming is lacking. With Sling TV, you’ll only get NBC and Fox, and they’re only available with some plans in select markets.

In markets that don’t have live Fox or NBC, you’ll have access to on-demand content from the channels.

Here are the markets that have FOX and NBC available live:

  • FOX: New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC, Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Gainesville, St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay, Orlando, Daytona, Melbourne
  • NBC: New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, Washington DC, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Hartford, New Haven, Dallas, Fort Worth, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, San Diego

Remember, if you don’t live in one of the markets that get FOX or NBC live, you’ll have access to an on-demand version of the channel. However, you’ll want to be in the live market for watching NFL on Sling TV.

To access FOX or NBC streaming on Sling TV, you’ll need the Sling Blue package, which runs $35 per month and comes with 40+ channels.

Can You Watch ABC on Sling TV?

Sling TV used to carry ABC in its Broadcast Extra add-on package, which was an additional $5 per month. However, Sling ditched the Broadcast Extra bundle after losing Univision and UniMas in a contractual dispute. Upon eliminating the Broadcast Extra package, Sling TV also dropped ABC altogether from its lineup, so no, you cannot watch ABC on Sling TV.

There is a minor exception to this. Sporting events that air on ABC, like NBA games or college football, also simulcast on ESPN3, which Sling TV does carry in its Orange package for $35 per month.

Other services like FuboTV and Hulu + Live TV do let you stream ABC in many markets.

If you want this local channel, check out our guide on how to watch ABC online.

Can You Watch CBS on Sling TV?

No, Sling TV has never carried CBS in its channel lineup, and we don’t expect them to add the channel in the foreseeable future. Other services like FuboTV and Hulu Live TV do let you stream CBS in many markets.

Can You Watch PBS on Sling TV?

No, you can’t watch PBS on Sling TV at this time. As a matter of fact, most of the major live streaming services do not carry PBS. One of the few exceptions is YouTube TV from $64.99 per month.

If you want to watch PBS without an antenna or cable, your best bet is to download the PBS Video App on your device to access their content.

Can You Watch CW on Sling TV?

No Sling TV package offers The CW at this time. Hulu Live and FuboTV currently carry CW stations in some markets. There’s also the CW app which carries some on-demand content from the network.

Can You Watch Telemundo on Sling TV?

No, Sling TV does not carry Telemundo streaming in any of its packages at this time. If you want to watch Telemundo online, you can get it with fuboTV, Hulu Live TV, and other streaming services.

How to Check Your Local Channels on Sling TV

If you want to see which local channels are available on Sling TV in your market, they do offer a tool that shows you exactly which channels you can get in your home. You’ll just need to input your Zip Code to get the results.

Free AirTV: Local Channels on Sling TV

If you prepay for just two months of Sling TV, you can get a free AirTV Mini – an $80 value.

AirTV products integrate with Sling TV and your antenna, letting you pipe the channels you pick up with your antenna directly into the Sling TV interface on all of your streaming devices — no need to switch between interfaces!

So, for example, this could let you watch PBS, CBS, Telemundo or any other local channel you can receive using your antenna on your phone, tablet, or laptop.

Furthermore, you can record your local channels with AirTV.

Other AirTV and OTA products offered by Sling TV include:

  • HD Antenna: Offered with three deals when you prepay for Sling TV.
  • AirTV Anywhere: Offered at a discounted rate of $90, saving $154.98 when you prepay three months of Sling TV.
  • AirTV 2: Save $100 on this device when you prepay three months of Sling TV.

So, while you still need an antenna to get all of your locals, the ability to integrate them directly into your Sling TV interface makes it really convenient to stream your local channels at home or on the go.

Helen,
Thank you for this article. Your tip on ESPN3 for sports games on ABC just helped me watch game 7 of Utah Vs. Denver!

I considered subscribing to Sling TV, but they require opening an online account with them, with some personal details, before they show you all package prices and the add on prices, with the exception of the prices of Blue and Orange packages, which are $30 at this time. They don’t even mention you can combine them for $45 total. (free 3rd party comparison article informed me.). No other streaming TV service required that. I am seroiusly shopping for my final streaming TV choice. My first phone call to Sling Sales, asking for the pricing details, the sales woman took me back to the website and tried to walk me over the phone thru the Sling website. When she realized that the pricing details were not there, she said hold on I need to get a supervisor. She actually dumped me back into line for the next available Sales person. So after another wait, and my same explantion again, the next agent said I’ll have to walk you thru adding an account and then you can see the pricing details. Not a good first impression.
