Watch the Ryder Cup on Sling TV: Fierce Intercontinental Competition [2023]

Last Updated:

Ciao! This year the Ryder Cup will be contested in Rome — and you watch it all on Sling TV! Details below.

In a hurry? The 44th Annual Ryder Cup Matches will be held September 29 through October 1 and will be televised on USA Network and NBC. Sling Blue ($40.00/mo) is the plan for you. Save 50% on your first month of Sling TV.

The Ryder Cup dates all the way back to 1927, when it was first played in Worcester, Massachusetts. A 12-man team competition between a U.S. team and a European team, it’s held every two years, with venues alternating between the United States and Europe.

The event is held jointly by the PGA of America and Ryder Cup Europe. The venue this year is the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Guidonia Montecelio, just northeast of Rome, Italy. It’s the first time Italy has hosted the Ryder Cup, though the Italian Open was held at Marco Simone.

Ryder Cup Schedule

No, those aren’t typos — remember, the competition is in Rome, on Central European Time, while the times listed below are in Eastern. You can get up really (really!) early in the morning to watch it live, or you could just set your DVR and watch it on your time.

The first two days of Ryder Cup matches are fourball and foursome play. The scoring is by match play, not stroke play, and team play is rewarded over individual shots. The last day is made up of 12 singles matches.

  • Friday, Sept 29 : Day 1 (USA Network)
  • Saturday, Sept 30 : Day 2 Morning (USA Network)
  • Saturday, Sept 30 : Day 2 Afternoon (NBC)
  • Sunday, Oct 1 : Final Day Singles (NBC)

Immediately following each day’s sessions will be Live From the Ryder Cup on The Golf Channel.

FAQ

What are fourball and foursome matches?

Sports Channels on the Sling Blue Channel Guide (Android app displayed on Pixel 7)

Fourball matches mean teams of two each playing his ball, and the team score is the lower of the two scores, or the tied score if the two golfers tie. Foursome matches are played alternating, so each member of the two-man team switches off, making shots on the same ball until it’s in the hole. The partners also take turns teeing off.

For example, say Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus are a foursome team. Tiger tees off at the first hole, then Jack makes a shot, then Tiger, until it gets in the hole. Then Jack would tee off at the next hole.

Each match at the Ryder Cup is worth 1 point, with tied matches yielding a half-point each.

Who won the 2021 Ryder Cup?

The United States, 19-9, the largest victory margin since 1967, and the biggest defeat since the British team was widened to the European team in 1979. The 43rd Ryder Cup Matches were held at Whistling Straits in Haven, Wisconsin. The Cup was actually supposed to be contested in 2020, but the pandemic caused it to be postponed to 2021. This actually returned it to its odd-year schedule that it had before September 11, 2001.

Who has won the most Ryder Cups?

USA! USA! Seriously, though, the US dominated the competition between World War II and the mid-eighties. The overall record is 27-14-2, United States. However, in 1979, the field was expanded beyond simply the UK and Ireland to try to make the Cup more competitive. Since then, the record is 11-9-1, Europe.
