NESN is a regional sports network. The main draw for sports fans will be to watch baseball online with the local Boston Red Sox and to watch hockey online with the Boston Bruins. Of course, fans might also enjoy the coverage of minor league baseball and/or college sports.

Some analysis and commentary shows run when sporting events aren’t available. You can even pick up some soccer games, though they are recast. Still, plenty of sports coverage is available and you shouldn’t have to miss it just because you don’t have cable.

fuboTV (free 7-day trial) offers more regional sports channels than any other streaming service. It’s arguably the best way to watch sports online. That said, there really is something here for everyone.

In addition to live channels, you’ll have an on-demand library featuring 3-Day Replay, a cloud-DVR with upgradeable space, and much more. Plans start at $64.99 per month.

Using Streaming Services to Watch NESN Without Cable

Watching regional and nationwide TV used to require cable. It was the only legal way to watch all the most popular shows. That was until streaming services became available.

Streaming services give you a way to watch the channels you used to watch with cable, for less. It’s a way to get more entertainment, live and on-demand, with a cheaper monthly bill.

If you’re new to streaming, this section will tell you all the great reasons why streaming is becoming the most popular way to watch TV without cable!

Lower Prices – Remember the days of signing up for cable and paying nearly (or over) $100 a month? Maybe you had hundreds of channels, but after weeding out the ones you didn’t watch you’d end up with a select handful of popular channels. Now there’s streaming. You get anywhere from 40 to 80+ channels to start. The main difference is that the most expensive starting package is $64.99 a month. The average cost is around $64.99. Still, there are a few packages that get down to $20 or $25 per month. When it comes to price there’s no way for cable to beat streaming. This is the cheapest way to enjoy all your favorite channels including the NESN live stream.

No Contracts and Free Trials – When you signed up for cable, you likely had some form of contract. Usually, you get special pricing for a year or two, but when the contract is over, your bill shoots up in price. Depending on the contract, if you cancel early you might also deal with financial consequences. As for free trials, cable companies don’t offer them. You won’t have a chance to get buyer’s remorse. You just jump in and hope the service is what you want. Streaming services don’t require contracts. You can cancel whenever you want. As for free trials, they do offer them. Most services give you one week free. Since there are no contracts, if you use a service for a few days and just don’t like it, you can cancel without paying anything and move on to the next service.

The Ability to Choose – While the packages are sometimes smaller than what you’d get with cable, they offer fewer filler channels and more of what you want. You also have more room to upgrade your package. Movie channels like HBO and Starz are available through most services for a fee. Many services allow you to add a variety of channels to your package, as well. So, whether you want some additional sports channels or something else entirely, you have a good chance of finding it with one of the available streaming services.

Stream Just About Anywhere – Don’t get me wrong, watching TV on a TV is great. However, if you want to watch TV in your backyard, at the beach, or on a park bench, streaming allows you to do that, too. This is because streaming devices are smaller and often portable. They don’t have to be hooked up and remain on the same TV either. You can move them from TV to TV if you want. As you sign into your streaming service, you can use your device from pretty much anywhere with an Internet connection. This means you can watch TV on your terms, wherever and whenever you want. Our guide to streaming devices can tell you more.

Added Features – Both cable and streaming subscribers are most interested in live TV. The difference is that with cable, live TV is usually the only thing you get. You may have an on-demand library, but other features, like DVR access usually come with additional fees. Streaming also offers some additions beyond live TV, but if your package comes with something it’s included in the main price. The only extra price you would incur is if you add or upgrade something in your package. While features vary based on the service, some common features include:

  • Shared accounts can have user profiles to keep everything separate
  • On-demand libraries
  • You can use TV Everywhere apps for many networks in your channel lineup
  • Most services offer a cloud-based DVR – space varies, but many services offer DVR space upgrades
  • Watch in most places, when you want, on a variety of streaming devices
  • No contracts
  • Free trials that give you a risk-free way to back out if you don’t like a service
  • The ability to upgrade and add to your original package

signing up for Fubo just to watch NESN is like going to a restaurant for a hamburger and being forced to pay for chicken, pasta, lobster, and steak because thats how they sell it.

Thank you for the article but I am from MA and I don’t see NESN as an option on YouTube tv.

NESN is no longer available on YouTube TV. It was removed two years ago. Update your stuff !

Fubo is not available on Vizio TVs. YouTube TV no longer carries NESN. I subscribed
To Hulu + Live, figuring that was the next best thing for sports. NESN blames Hulu,
Telling viewers to complain to Hulu to make a deal at NESN’s acceptable price to

How can we get either side to change things? I want to watch live sports, esp. NESN,
on my TV- not a phone, tablet or PC!

YouTube TV dropped NESN several months ago, along with almost all other regional sports networks around the US.

Cannot watch my Bruins anymore since I can’t afford cable or these other streaming options costing $50. and more/month. WTF

I’ve been watching the Bruin’s and Sox since 1967, now on disability, fixed income can’t afford cable, fun, or anything else at $ 64.00 a month. Now they loose a loyal fan because I’m not able to watch on phone or tablet. Good going NESN and NHL for taking this away from me and otherd

Tried every way to play nesn, since YouTube TV dropped it, not paying almost $70 a month for Fubotv for just Bruins games. NESN should offer ‘direct payment option’ for streaming and casting to tv through their app, with a login of course, I would be willing to pay for that for the season. Otherwise, the bruins, red sox and nesn are going to lose another viewer. (I’m sure more than just me…..)

We did the 7 day free trial for Fubo to at least watch the game tonight and then cancel the trial before we get charged

so – youtube tv just dropped nesn – – and fubo is missing stations like tnt and tbs – – so they aren’t an option – – how else can you get nesn

Unfortunately, ain’t no way using a tablet or phone, unless you have a cable account or subscribe to fubotv….sux, will be missing my bruins games I’ve been watching for over 20 years.

we do not live in the New England area but want to get rid of cable and stream NESN. Is this possible?

Not unless you subscribe to fubotv, I’ve tried every phone/tablet option, unfortunately we are out of luck !
