Channels for Brasileirão Série A Top Teams
In the United States, if you want access to the league as well as Brasileirão Série B and other Brazil- and South America-based soccer, you need to get access to Premiere TV.

Top 10 Brasileirão Série A Teams
The Campeonato Brasileiro Série A is one of the world’s most historic and prestigious domestic league competitions. It’s part of an expansive club soccer structure in that country that includes state leagues that precede its nationwide campaigns. Brazil’s teams also regularly impress at the Copa CONMEBOL Libertadores.
The 2024 Brasileirão campaign, which stretches from April to December, is now underway. Here are some of the top clubs to watch out for this season.
Flamengo
Flamengo is certainly the bettors’ favorite to win the league this year. Its highly talented roster also has it favored to win the Copa Libertadores. It was the only team undefeated in the Cariocão (the Rio de Janeiro state championship). Flamengo is one of Brazilian football’s most storied sides, having won the Brasileirão seven times.
Despite all that, they finished fourth last season. Their comparative lack of trophies recently may be just the motivation they need to go all the way this year.
The club has new midfielders, Allan and Nicolas de la Cruz, as well as new defenders, Leo Ortiz and Matias Vina.
Palmeiras
This São Paulo-based club not only has the most Brasileirão titles (12), but it is also the competition’s defending champion two years running, having claimed the 2022 and 2023 trophies.
Like Flamengo, Palmeiras was also the only team to go undefeated in its state championship, Paulistão. However, they will be hurt by the loss of their star player Endrick to Real Madrid in July. Between that and simultaneously trying for the Copa Libertadores, some regard them as underdogs to Flamengo for this season’s league title.
Atlético Mineiro
Atlético is a team on the rise again, after being the last non-Palmeiras team to win the Brasileirão, back in 2021. Their squad of younger talent is expected to develop well over the season, but the 37-year-old Hulk is still the team’s best player. Together with the 2023 top scorer Paulinho and the 2022 best player Gustavo Scarpa, they give Galo a fighting chance.
Internacional
Internacional got everyone excited by finishing second in the 2022 Brasileirão, but then finished ninth last season. That means it only qualifies for the Copa Sudamericana this year, not the more prestigious Copa Libertadores. While this is disappointing for the team, the silver lining is that they won’t be splitting their energy as much between contests and will be able to focus on the national league more than the three teams above.
The team was the only club in their state championship, the Gaúcho, to only take one loss. With a lot of new talent now, including Enner Valencia from Fenerbahce, Internacional is certainly a dark horse contender.
5. Fluminense
While usually a solid mid-tier team, Fluminense surprised everyone by taking the Copa Libertadores last year. The Porto Alegre-based team hasn’t won the Brasileirão title since 2012, and they finished seventh last year, but they’re definitely not out of the running.
Top scorers from 2023 include powerhouse Germán Cano (10), Jhon Arias (7), and Lima (6). Arias also tops in terms of assists (9), along with Ganso (7) and Keno (4).
6. Grêmio
Grêmio shares the state of Rio Grade do Sul with Internacional, their fiercest rivals. It won the state championship, Campeonato Gaúcho, for the seventh time straight, while Internacional finished third.
Last year, they finished the Brasileirão as runners-up to Palmeiras. The club also shares the record of most Libertadores wins with São Paulo, Santos, Palmeiras, and Flamengo (three each). They’ll be looking to striker Diego Costa and the multi-talented Nathan Fernandes to help them go all the way this season.
Athletico Paranaense
Athletico Paranaense will likely be another top-half club in 2024. Not one of the big twelve of Brazilian soccer, but still a side to be reckoned with. In 2022, it just missed lifting the Copa Libertadores, placing runner-up to Flamengo.
This season, they’ll be relying again on the skills of midfielder Fernandinho, along with newcomers Christian, forward Gonzalo Mastriani, and goalkeepers Bento and Mycael.
São Paulo
São Paulo is another team to watch out for in 2024. Although it finished mid-table in 2023, coming in eleventh, some believe that it will push towards the top of it in 2024. With that said, winning its seventh Brasileirão title might be too much of a stretch. Also note that it entered its Série A campaign on the heels of an exit from the Campeonato Paulista in the quarterfinal round, falling to Novorizontino in penalties after those teams drew, 1-1.
On the other hand, the club did take the 2024 Copa do Brasil trophy. Players to watch include top scorers: forwards Luciano and Jonathan Calleri as well as midfielder Pablo Maia.
Botafogo
Botafogo was having a great season last year, until they suddenly weren’t. Halfway through the 2023 Brasileirão, leading by a magnificent 13 points, they underwent a series of rapid changes in management. They lost 11 games in a row, in what is widely considered the biggest bottle-job (that’s a massive dive for an otherwise usually reliable player or team) in soccer history, and finished fifth.
Can Botafogo rise, phoenix-like, from the ashes? With a new coach, Artur Jorge, at the helm, only time will tell.
Red Bull Bragantino
Bragantino is a big question mark. The team has only been playing in Brazil’s top flight league since 2020 when Red Bull took over ownership. It’s never finished higher than sixth in the league. It was eliminated from the 2024 Copa Libertadores (their first) in the third stage by none other than Botafogo above. That may be a blow to morale, but will also free up energy for them to focus on the national league.
