New Mexico State Aggies vs Fresno State Bulldogs

The 2023 New Mexico Bowl features Conference USA (C-USA) and the Mountain West Conference (MWC). And it is the first time New Mexico State has ever participated but it is Fresno State’s fourth appearance.

The Aggies secured second place in C-USA behind No 23 Liberty University, which will appear in the Fiesta Bowl (Sling Guide). NMS ended the season with a 10-4 (7-1 in-conference) reference. They lost the C-USA Championship Game to Liberty 35-49.

The Bulldogs did not do as well this year, but they are in a stronger conference. They secured sixth place with a record of 8-4 (4-4 in-conference).

New Mexico State Aggies Personnel

Jerry Kill is in his second season as head coach at NMSU with a total record of 17-10 but with a much stronger showing this year than last. He is joined by offensive coordinator Tim Beck and defensive coordinator Nate Dreiling. They both joined the team at the same time as Kill.

Quarterback Diego Pavia leads the Aggies offense. With him are running backs Star Thomas, Monte Watkins, and Jamoni Jones, wide receivers Jonathan Brady and Trent Hudson, and tight end Thomaz Whitford. Sophomore Quarterback also makes substantial contributions as running back.

The defensive squad includes linebackers Keyshaun Elliott, Gabe Peterson, Sone Aupiu, Buddha Peleti, and Nikhil Webb Walker, defensive backs Reggie Akles, Keonte Glinton, Andre Seldon, JJ Dervil, Jordan Vincent, BJ Sculark, Myles Rowser, Jeremiah Vessel, Mehki Miller, and Dylan Early, and linemen Dion Wilson Jr, Sterling Webb, Izaiah Reed, and Gabriel Iniguez.

Fresno State Bulldogs Personnel

Bulldogs head coach Jeff Tedford has headed the team for 5 seasons with a two-season break (2020-2021) for health reasons. His overall record is 44-22 (27-13 in-conference). He is joined by offensive coordinator Pat McCann and defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle.

The Bulldogs offense is led by quarterback Mitch Davidson. With him are running backs Tyshon King and Dra Rushton, wide receivers Erik Brooks, Jalen Moss, Mac Dalena, Jaelen Gill, and Josiah Freeman, and tight end Tre Watson.
