Table Of Contents
If you’ve ever watched truTV and thought to yourself, “Man, instead of offbeat practical jokes and backyard bar construction, I wish this were about brides from hell and post-prison relationship drama,” you have just found yourself the perfect channel.
WE tv launched in 1997 as “Romance Classics” and featured romantic comedy and drama movies and miniseries. It ditched the movies for general format and was relaunched in 2001 as “WE: Women’s Entertainment.”
In 2006, it shifted almost exclusively to women-centric reality shows and dropped the “women’s entertainment” from the name. In 2014, they stopped overtly marketing to a woman-only audience, but the channel maintained a female focus. They experimented with two scripted drama series before going back to their original reality series in 2015.
Right now, WE’s programming lineup consists of family- and relationship-based reality shows and docu-dramas, plus a rotating handful of syndicated dramas (current flavor: criminal justice procedural).
But you don’t have to give up watching Marriage Boot Camp just because you want to call it quits with your cable company. Read on to find out how.
How to Watch WE tv Live Without Cable
WE tv is owned by AMC Networks, which, besides the AMC channel, owns IFC, Sundance TV, AllBlk, Shudder, Acorn TV, and distributes BBC America and BBC World News in the US.
Other women-focused channels include Bravo, Lifetime, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), Oxygen, Start TV, and Cleo TV.
WE tv isn’t an over-the-air (OTA) channel, so you can’t pick it up with an antenna. You need a subscription to a pay-TV provider that carries it. Instead of a traditional cable company, that TV provider can be a streaming service that delivers your channels over the internet.
These “OTT” (over the top) streaming services offer the same shows, but for less money and hassle than cable or satellite. Read on to see which services carry WE tv.

If you can’t watch your favorite movies and shows because of your location, a VPN will allow you to get the access you are entitled to, plus extra security and unequalled privacy. Check out our VPN Guide for everything you need to know, including our top pick ExpressVPN.

Streaming Services with WE tv
First, the bad news: Hulu + Live TV, one of the oldest and biggest streaming services, does not carry WE tv (or any AMC channels, for that matter). They don’t even carry any WE original series in their streaming library. FuboTV, another major streaming TV provider, has also dropped AMC Networks channels, including WE tv, from its lineup
Vidgo, a mid-level service, doesn’t include AMC channels either. But that still leaves several other services that do include WE tv. Let’s start with Sling TV, which has some extra AMC offerings.
Philo
Philo has grown from a limited on-demand college service to a full nationwide live OTT provider. Named for Philo T Farnsworth, inventor of the TV, Philo is your go-to if you want cable-style entertainment at the lowest possible price.
You get over 60 channels for just $25/mo, including Lifetime, OWN, Cleo TV, AMC, BBC America, IFC, and Sundance TV. They even throw in unlimited cloud DVR storage and up to three simultaneous streams at once. Note their channel lineup is missing Bravo, Oxygen, and Start TV.
To learn more about Philo, see our in-depth review.
Sling TV
Sling TV is the oldest live-streaming cable-replacement service around. You can choose from one of two base packages, Orange or Blue ($40.00/mo for either one). But Sling Blue is the better of the two for WE tv fans.
It comes with 50 hours of cloud DVR storage and you can stream different shows on up to 3 devices at a time. AMC, BBC America, IFC, and Lifetime are also included.
Sling also features channel add-on packages. Oxygen and 9 other channels are available as Lifestyle Extra for $6/mo. Start TV and Sundance TV plus 8 other channels are available in Hollywood Extra for $6/mo.
You can also get AMC+ Extra, which gives you a kind of all-access pass to all AMC Network content. You get AMC, IFC Films Unlimited, Sundance Now, and classic and cutting-edge horror with Shudder.
Slings premium channels also include AMC streaming platforms Acorn TV (international programs) and Allblk (African-American content).
For more information, see our Sling TV review.
DIRECTV STREAM
DIRECTV STREAM (formerly AT&T TV) offers four tiers of channels and services, starting with the Entertainment package for $79.99/mo. It has over 75 channels, including WE tv, AMC, BBC America, Bravo, Cleo TV, IFC, Lifetime, OWN, Oxygen, and Sundance TV.
All packages include local stations, unlimited cloud DVR storage as long as you sign up online, and the option to watch on unlimited screens in your home at a time. See our DIRECTV STREAM review for details.

There are other options for watching WE tv without cable:
- You can live stream WE tv on YouTube TV, which has over 100 channels for $72.99/mo.
- Some platforms, such as Apple TV or Amazon Prime, have Allblk available as a low-cost subscription service, giving you on-demand access to a lot of WE tv content.

Superpower Your Live TV Streaming With a VPN

Devices and TVs to Watch WE tv
The streaming services we’ve discussed above work on most of the streaming devices in use today. So watching WE tv on whatever you currently use is likely not a problem.
All devices/TVs based on Android TV work with all the services. And all the services allow casting to TVs from smartphones or web browsers using Chromecast — both the external device and the system built-in to many TVs.
Only Philo fails to support Samsung model smart TVs. And Sling TV works with LG and Vizio smart TVs.
All the services support Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Roku devices. The same goes for smartphones and tablets based on iOS and Android. Sling TV also supports the Xbox One and the Oculus.
If you didn’t see your device listed here, don’t despair. Check out our reviews for complete information on supported devices.

What happened to WE tv+?
WE tv+ was a subscription-based ad-free on-demand streaming service offered by AMC Networks, similar to its AMC+ service. It combined content from WE tv and Allblk (which already share a lot of shows anyway). It appears to have been quietly removed earlier this year.
If you’re looking for an alternative, check out Allblk, which is supposed to be getting any of WE tv+’s content it didn’t already have. If you have a pay TV provider, WE tv also streams many of its shows on its website via TV Everywhere.
