Fox Sports is a division of the Fox Corporation. Under this umbrella, there is Fox Sports 1 (FS1), Fox Sports 2 (FS2), and the Fox Sports Radio Network.

The Fox Corporation is able to reach 100 million viewers over the course of one weekend through its multi-platform sports assets. For sports fans, having access to FS1 and FS2 is a must to keep up on the best sports.

What is the difference between FS1 and FS2? FS1 airs the most popular live sporting events. FS2 tends to air less popular events. For example, FS1 might be broadcasting a FIFA World Cup qualifying match while FS2 is showing a delayed PBA event.

FS2 also airs overflow coverage of events that are too large for FS1 to air them all. Finally, FS2 rebroadcasts first-run FS1 shows.

How to Watch FS2 Live Without Cable

Fox Sports 2 is an integral part of Fox’s sports coverage. Extreme sports are no longer a hassle to watch when you are able to access FS2. The good news is you do not have to have a cable subscription to be able to watch FS2.

But you cannot get FS2 over the air with an antenna. It must come via a provider. And that means that you need a streaming service to get access.

Beyond that, you need a good internet connection (which you already have if you’re reading this) and a streaming device, which we will discuss below.

Other Ways To Stream FS2

There are other ways to get FS2, which are of varying value:

  • FoxSports.com: You can watch the live stream on the Fox Sports website. Of course, you will need a provider to log in so you’ll still need to sign-up with a streaming service, but this can be a convient way to watch.
  • Fox Sports App: Provides live streaming of Fox Sports content including FS2 as welll as provides stats, instant scores, and alerts. As with the website, you need a provider account but this allows you to watch on the road.
  • YouTube TV: Another full streaming service very similar to Hulu + Live TV. It provides 100+ live TV channels including FS2.

Streaming TVs and Devices for FS2

FS2 Vidgo Android
FS2 and other sports channels on Vidgo for Android.

The streaming industry has gotten serious over the last few years about supporting the TVs and devices that are in use today. So now, most devices are supported by most services. All of the services we’ve discussed support the following:

  • Android: smartphones and tablets
  • Chromecast: units and built-in systems
  • iOS: iPhones, iPads, iPod Touch units
  • TV Devices: Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku
  • Web browsers: Chrome, Edge, Safari (Windows/Mac).

Other than Vidgo, every service also supports the recent Samsung smart TVs. And other than DIRECTV STREAM, they all support TVs running the Android TV system.

Fubo, Sling, and Hulu support LG smart TVs, Amazon Fire tablets, and selected Xbox gaming consoles. Fubo also supports recent Hisense smart TVs.

You can watch Sling TV on the Oculus VR device. And Hulu lets you do the same on the PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

What Sports Does FS2 Broadcast?

FS2 offers a wide range of sporting events. It works in conjunction with Fox, FS1, and Fox Soccer Plus. It features popular sports like football, soccer, and auto racing.

In terms of auto racing it shows a lot of motorcycle, drag (NHRA), and even NASCAR. Generally, you won’t see NASCAR Cup Series racing but you will often find Xfinity Series qualifying on FS2 while the main race is on FS1.

FS2 is also home for some impressive soccer events. For example, it features early matches of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. And it featured Canadian Premier League Soccer and the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup. FS1 airs events like the UEFA Nations League, Major League Soccer, and Copa América. You may sometimes see these on FS2. But you need to look elsewhere for Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and UEFA Champions League.

But they also feature less common sports like horse racing (including the Dubai World Cup live stream and Belmont Stakes post-race coverage), boxing, and surfing. They also feature National Rugby League (NRL) matches. There is even wrestling and off-road racing. And, of course, they show a lot of extreme sports. There is truly something for every sports fan.

FS2 was at one time a big broadcaster of UFC events in its Fuel TV days. This decreased substantially after it because FS2 in 2013. And since 2019, UFC does not appear on the channel since the rights have moved to ESPN.

But Fox Sports 2 is not the channel for the big leagues. FS2 doesn’t broadcast any games from the NFL, NHL, or NBA. Nor does it offer Major League Baseball (FS1 features 40 games this season).

One thing that is important to remember is that FS2 also acts as an overflow channel for FS1. So occasional events like USFL games on FS1 may end up on FS2. But the two channels generally come together with streaming services. And it is always the case that if you get FS2, you will also get FS1.

FAQs

What is the difference between FS1 and FS2?

To the untrained eye, FS1 and FS2 may seem to offer the same sports, games, and other programs. They are, in fact, different. FS2 acts as an overflow channel for big events that FS1 can’t handle. They also show less common events like professional bowling and poker.

What is the best way to get FS2?

The best way to get FS2 will depend upon your needs. But since all the top streaming services offer FS2 — most in their base plans — you have a lot of options. The cheapest way to get it is with the Sling Blue plan ($40.00/mo) and the Sports Extra add-on ($11/mo). But our top choice for sports in general and FS2, in particular, is Fubo.

Can I watch FS2 on my phone?

You can watch FS2 through the Fox Sports app on your phone as long as you have login credentials from a cable, satellite, or streaming provider. If you have a streaming service, you can watch it directly with it. All the streaming services we’ve discussed provide apps for Android and iOS (eg, iPhone) mobile devices.

Does DIRECTV have FS2?

DirecTV and DIRECTV STREAM both offer FS2. But unlike FS1, which is included with all plans, FS2 requires that you upgrade to the Ultimate Plan ($119.99/mo). This also provides ACC Network, Big Ten Network, CBS Sports Network, ESPNews, ESPNU, FanDuel, MLB Network, NBA TV, NHL Network, SEC Network, Sportsman Channel, Tennis Channel, and TUDN.

What channel number is FS2 on cable and satellite?

Sadly, cable and satellite providers never standardized channel numbers. They do tend to be clustered, however. So FS2 will generally be close to ESPN and often next to FS1, if you know where they are. Here are the channel numbers for the biggest providers:

  • AT&T: 651 (SD) and 1651 (HD)
  • Cable One: 148
  • Comcast/Xfinity (West): 409/410
  • Comcast/Xfinity (Northeast): 254
  • Comcast/Xfinity (Central): 328
  • Cox: Varies but 319 in California, 218 in Ohio, 243 in Kansas
  • DirecTV: 618
  • Dish: 149
  • Frontier: 651/1651 (Connecticut) and 652 (elsewhere)
  • MediaCom: 179 (SD) and 765 (HD)
  • Spectrum: Varies but most often 401
  • Verizon: 84 (SD) and 584 (HD)
