DVR Free Live TV with No Subscription Fee

Channel Master is the OTA DVR you need to know about

Channel Master DVR+ ReviewsOne of the things cord cutters miss the most about cable is the awesome DVR (Digital Video Recorder) feature that many cable subscription packages come with. With a DVR, you never have to worry about missing your favorite show because you got home from work a little later than usual.

And, maybe more importantly, with a DVR you can skip all those annoying commercials!

There are a number of DVRs out there that will integrate with your OTA  / Antenna signal, but with most you are still subject to an expensive monthly subscriptions. You already paid for an antenna, a DVR, and now you have to pay $20 a month to record FREE television? That almost completely contradicts the point about killing the cable bill. This just wont work. Luckily for us, we have another option.

Recording Over the Air Channels

You don’t want cable and you don’t want ridiculous fees to simply record a television program. So what’s a person to do? If you are the type of person that likes to play around with technology, you might want to try to build your own DVR, which is surprisingly not as difficult as it sounds.

However, if you’re like me, then you prefer a simple plug and play experience. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with a little Do-It-Yourself from time to time; but when it comes to entertainment, the  easier the better. Luckily for us, there is a third option between expensive and complicated. It’s called the Channel Master DVR+.

A DVR for Over the Air TV Channels

Channel Master DVR+ ReviewsThe Channel Master DVR is a slim and sleek little box that can record your favorite shows with no monthly subscription fee. It comes with a dual HD tuner, which not only allows you access to Over-the-Air broadcast networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, CW, Univision, and Telemundo), but it also allows you to record two shows at once!

The Channel Master DVR sports an intuitive user interface that’s so simple even a child can figure it out. Not only that, but it’s also able to connect to the internet and access your favorite streaming services like Netflix or Amazon Prime. You also don’t have to worry about getting a special remote to work it, because the Channel Master DVR works with almost every universal remote on the market!

DVR Storage

Everything recorded on the Channel Master DVR is saved on its internal hard drive; which is one of the reasons you don’t have to subscription fee. As nice as cloud storage can be, it can also be pretty expensive.

If you like to save your shows for a long period of time and worry about running out of room, not to worry; the Channel Master DVR has a USB slot so you can easily hook up an external hard drive and store all your favorite shows without having to delete something you never had the chance to watch.

The Channel Master DVR will cost you around $250 for a DVR with 16GB, or for $399 you can get one Terabyte of storage (i.e. 1000GB). I definitely recommend the DVR with the Terabyte of storage if you can afford it because storage does get used quickly with video files. Although that option may seem expensive, in reality it’s cheaper than the alternative in the long run.

Channel Master DVR vs Tivo Roamio DVR

One of the most popular DVRs on the market is the TiVo Roamio DVR (Amazon Link). It will cost you around $200 at the beginning, and then you will pay an additional $15 every month; which equals to $180 a year, which is slightly more than the price difference between the 16Gb Channel Master DVR and the one with a Terabyte of storage. TiVo might cost less at the checkout counter, but in the long run you end up paying way more than you bargained for.

A Must Have Cable TV Alternative Device

Something that has always bothered me about the DVRs on the market is the sound and heat that they generate. I don’t want my living room to humming like it’s a desktop, and I definitely don’t want my DVR to run the risk of overheating. Unanimously Channel Master DVR+ Reviews tell us that both of these issues have been solved; it runs as quite as mouse and as cool as a cucumber.

If you are looking for an all-in-one entertainment experience and a DVR with no subscription fees, you will be hard pressed to find a device better than the Channel Master DVR. Its sleek design, intuitive interface, and low cost make cord cutting as simple as plug and play; and when you throw in Netflix / Streaming capabilities, you’re left wondering why you used anything else in the first place.
