Live TV streaming has come of age over the last few years. In the past, it was difficult to replicate most of what you got from cable TV via online services. Today, you can get service that is as good or better for less money.

Try FuboTV free for 7 days.

One area where the industry has blossomed is in its support for devices. It isn’t necessary to sit in front of your computer or connect a laptop to your TV. The best services allow you to watch live TV on virtually any device you own.

Below we will look at Fubo (FuboTV), which offers wide support for streaming devices ranging from the smallest smartphones to the largest high-definition TVs. You can even stream on 4K devices. So read on!

Fubo Overview

Fubo (or FuboTV) started as a way for soccer fans in the US to watch matches all over the world. And even today, Fubo remains the best streaming service for international sports fans. It offers an excellent general streaming service that is competitive with all the other industry leaders.

Plans

Fubo offers three base plans. There are two English-language plans. The Pro plan offers a large and well-rounded selection of channels. Most of the major channels come with it: HGTV, USA, Hallmark, Nat Geo, Discovery. So do the big news channels: Fox News and MSNBC. And big sports channels like ESPN, Fox Sports, and even NFL Network.

The Elite plan adds 44 channels from Fubo Extra and 10 channels from News Plus. These include a lot of entertainment and lifestyle channels. But it especially increases access to sports with channels like MLB Network, NBA TV, and NHL Network.

The Ultimate plan adds 13 channels from Sports Plus (the ones that don’t overlap with Fubo Extra) plus 9 Showtime channels. You get NFL Redzone and all the Pac-12 networks, plus the entire Showtime on-demand library.

Fubo also offers the Spanish-language plan Fubo Latino. It features fewer channels but they still represent a broad selection that is a good deal.

(Two missing elements in Fubo’s channel coverage are Turner and A&E. It doesn’t offer any of those channels like CNN and TBS or Lifetime and History — even as an extra. So if those channels are critical, check out some of the alternatives like Hulu and Sling TV.

  • Pro plan: $79.99/mo billed monthly for 100+ channels on 10 simultaneous devices with 750 hours of cloud DVR storage.
  • Elite plan: $89.99/mo billed monthly for 170+ channels on 10 simultaneous devices with 1,000 hours of cloud DVR storage.
  • Premier plan: $99.99/mo billed monthly for 190+ channels on 10 simultaneous devices with 1,000 hours of cloud DVR storage.
  • Latino plan: $32.99/mo billed monthly for 40 channels on 2 simultaneous devices with 250 hours of cloud DVR storage.

Channels

Fubo offers an excellent selection of channels even with its most basic plan. Below, we’ve subdivided them.

Entertainment Channels

These channels span a wide range. They include movies, nature-oriented material, new and old TV series, kids programming, documentary, how-to, and pretty much everything else you associate with cable TV. Some of them also provide minor coverage of news and sports.

There are a total of 48 channels in this category including most of what you think of as standard cable channels: AMC, Comedy Central, Food Network, Hallmark, Nickelodeon, USA, and VH1. It also includes the Fubo Movie Network and the Disney Channel.

News and Information Channels

Fubo provides good coverage of news and information. In most locations, there are more channels in this category that fall under local channels in the form of network affiliates.

There are 13 channels in this category including the national feeds of the network news channels, MSNBC, Fox News, and The Weather Channel.

FuboTV Sports Tab

Sports Channels

As mentioned above, Fubo started as a sports streaming service and even though it has broadened over the years, it still provides exceptional coverage of live sports. In addition to these channels, Fubo offers regional sports networks (RSNs) but they are location-dependent.

There are 37 channels in this category including 9 channels of beIN Sports, 12 channels of TUDN, two ESPN, two Fox Sports, and specialized channels like NFL Network.

Local Channels and Regional Sports Networks

Fubo offers access to 8 local network affiliates: ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Telemundo, Univision, and UniMás. However, as with all providers, this access is location-dependent. Coverage for each network also varies.

Note, however, that Fubo has done a good job of providing coverage where there is demand. For example, coverage of the three Spanish-language networks is excellent in high-Latinx areas like Los Angeles, San Antonio, and Miami.

In terms of regional sports networks, Fubo offers 14 base channels (many include subchannels). But you will only get a subset of these depending on your location.

For complete information about local and regional channels, see our Fubo local channel guide.

In addition to the live TV channels, Fubo provides a good selection of on-demand content.

Fubo Add-ons

If all that comes with the base plans is not enough, there are many add-ons you can select from. We will list them briefly here. If you want details, see our Fubo review.

  • SHOWTIME: $10.99/mo
  • STARZ: $8.99/mo
  • MGM+: $5.99/mo
  • AMC Premiere: $4.99/mo.
  • Fubo Extra: $7.99/mo
  • News Plus: $2.99/mo
  • Entretenimiento Plus: $4.99/mo
  • Latino Plus: $19.99/mo
  • Portuguese Plus: $14.99/mo
  • Sports Plus With NFL RedZone: $10.99/mo
  • International Sports Plus: $6.99/mo
  • Adventure Plus: $4.99/mo
  • RAI Italia: $8.99/mo
  • TV5MONDE: $9.99/mo

Technical Add-Ons

There are also technical add-ons. For the Elite and Ultimate plans, these are unnecessary since both plans already come with 1,000 hours of cloud DVR storage and streaming on up to 10 devices at home and 3 away.

But the add-ons are still used by people who have old plans or the current Latino plan. Cloud DVR 1000 ($16.99/mo), increases your DVR storage from 250 hours to 1,000 hours. It would also do the same for the Pro plan, which currently has 750 hours, but it would be cheaper to upgrade to the Elite plan than to get the DVR upgrade.

Probably more important, Unlimited Screens ($9.99/mo) allows you to stream on up to 10 devices at home simultaneously. It also allows you to stream on two devices on the road. Family Share ($5.99/mo) gives you a third device away from home.

Supported Fubo Devices

Fubo does not support quite as many devices as some live TV streaming services like Hulu. But those that it doesn’t support are less popular. Fubo’s supported devices are roughly the same as those for YouTube TV and Sling TV.

For almost all users, Fubo has you covered:

Amazon Fire TV

Amazon Fire TV is one of the most popular devices for streaming live TV. Fubo is compatible with all Fire TV devices, as well as TVs that have Fire TV built-in (specifically Insignia, Toshiba, and Element models).

These devices must have Android OS 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher, which shouldn’t be a problem. For example, Fubo will run on all Fire tablets from 2015 onward.

Android Mobile

FuboTV on Android Phone
Fubo runs easily on most devices like this Android phone app.

You can stream Fubo using an Android app that works on Google approved mobile phones and tablets. These devices must have Android OS 5.0 or higher installed.

Android TV

You can stream Fubo directly to your TV if you have a Google-approved Android TV device or a TV with Android TV built-in. Just like with Android Mobile or Amazon Fire TV, you need to make sure your device has Android OS 5.0 or higher installed. This includes specific models from Asus, Hisense, Panasonic, Philips, Sharp, Sony, and TCL. But there are many more manufacturers (see Fubo support).

Apple TV

You can also stream Fubo on your Apple TV. All devices 4th generation or later are supported. That’s 2015 onward. You may also want to update your device’s tvOS to version v13.0 or higher. This will help make sure your viewing experience is flawless.

Browsers

Haven’t sprung for a smart TV yet? No problem. You can also watch Fubo on both Mac and PC computers. Just make sure to use the latest version of Chrome, EDGE, Firefox, or Safari.

Note that you can run Fubo on a laptop and connect it to your TV through an HDMI cable. It’s a bit cumbersome but works very well.

Chromecast

Chromecast is another option for watching Fubo. You can stream content using either Chromecast (2nd generation or later) or Chromecast Ultra. You can also watch using a TV with Google Cast built-in, such as Vizio SmartCast 3.0 TVs. You can do this using an Android or iOS device — or just a Chrome browser.

iPhone, iPad, and iPod

Fubo is compatible with several Apple products. Stream the big game on your iPhone 6s or newer. You can also watch on the iPad Pro, iPad Air 2 or newer, iPad 5th generation or newer, or the iPad Mini 2 or newer.

The Fubo app will also work with the iPod Touch Generation 7 or newer. You should be able to stream on any device using iOS v13.0 or higher.

Roku

The Fubo app is compatible with any Roku device that can still receive OS updates. This is because older devices may not have the features needed to support the streaming app.

For streaming with limited functionality (no autoplay or background video), you’ll need a Roku Model 3600X. For full support, you need Model 3700X or newer. Roku is one of the most popular Fubo devices.

Samsung Smart TV

Samsung Smart TV models released since 2015 are compatible with Fubo. However, not all features are available. The streaming service is looking to introduce additional features in the near future.

These are the devices that are currently compatible with Fubo. If you want to learn more about what it has to offer, check out our full Fubo review. Fubo allows you to try out its service with a free trial.

4K Devices

With its Elite and Ultimate plans, Fubo offers over 130 live events every year in 4K. As with pretty much every other provider, this is upscaled. But it still looks great.

If you want to watch these events in 4K, however, you need a device that displays 4K. Before we list the devices, note that some events also require HDR10. Additionally, you need to use an HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 cable. And Fubo recommends a minimum internet speed of 25 Mbps.

FAQs

How many devices can I stream at once?

With Fubo, you can stream on multiple devices simultaneously. However, the number of devices you can stream on depends on which plan you purchase. How do I cast Fubo to my TV?

Using Chromecast to watch Fubo on your Smart TV is easy. But the process is slightly different depending on you device. If you are using a Chrome browser, you just select “Cast” from Options (3 vertical dots) and select the device you want to cast to. If you are using an Android or iOS app, you select the Chromecast icon from the top right of the screen and select the device you want. That’s it!

Can I skip commercials on Fubo?

You can’t skip commercials on live TV just as you can’t with cable or through an antenna. But for programs that are recorded on your included cloud DVR, you can skip commercials. This is not true of all streaming services. Hulu, for example, charges extra for this ability.

What is Fubo Connect?

Fubo Connect (or FuboTV Connect) is a system for logging into your Fubo account on a device without entering your username and password. For example, on Amazon Fire TV, you can enter your login information or just “Sign in with a code.” If you use the latter method, the Fubo app gives you a code, which you enter on your computer by going to https://fubo.tv/connect. It works the same on most other devices.
