The trailer for the new Hulu series, Solar Opposites, from Justin Roiland, co-creator of Rick and Morty, and Mike McMahan has finally arrived. With this first trailer, fans get their first glimpse at the series’ aliens who crash in suburban America. The journey starts with the premiere of Solar Opposites on May 8 on Hulu.

The initial order for the series was for two seasons. The first season will consist of eight episodes. Meanwhile, the second season has already been ordered. The series will follow the team of aliens that settle in suburban America to protect a living supercomputer, Pupa, which will evolve to one day terraform Earth and consume them. A common theme throughout the series will be the debate as to which is better—life on Earth or their home world that was previously destroyed.

The trailer for Solar Opposites shows a similar tone and style as Rick and Morty, which makes sense given that the series is co-created by Roiland and McMahan. Roiland, who is the man behind the voice of both titular characters in Rick and Morty, plays a role in the new series as Korvo, one of the main aliens. Meanwhile, McMahan is the former head writer for Rick and Morty.

The series has secured several guest actors for the first season. Some of the voices you may recognize include Liam Cunningham, Tiffany Haddish, Christina Hendricks, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Jason Matzoukas, Alfred Molina, Alan Tudyk, and Rainn Wilson.

For fans that miss the profane humor and sci-fi mischief of Rick and Morty, Solar Opposite is a serious contender. While it may not have the cult-like following of Rick and Morty, the new series may benefit from the increased number of streaming service users as people try to overcome boredom during the Covid-19 outbreak.
