What is fuboTV?

fuboTV Premier is a Streaming Service Dedicated to Live Sports and Entertainment

What is FuboTV

Ever since Sling TV burst out on to the scene, every digital media distributor has been itching to get a slice of the ever expanding cord cutting market. In 2015 we got Sling TV. In 2016 we got PlayStation Vue. And in 2017 we get… fuboTV?

That’s right, one of the leading streaming sources of international soccer is taking a dip into the wider streaming market with a twist. Enter: fuboTV Premier.

Before we dig into this  new offering, lets take a look at what they offered in years past.

fuboTV’s Previous Offering

Sometimes being a soccer fan in the United States can be a bit frustrating. Even with substantially large organizations like Major League Soccer (MLS), the sports gets little love from cable television.

Fubo TV

What was fuboTV? A fantastic streaming service that would deliver to you more soccer than you could shake a stick at.

How Much did fuboTV Cost? Making its debut in January of 2015, fuboTV was a streaming service that opened up the wide world of soccer to American fans. For $6.99 a month, fuboTV gave us access to 12 live soccer channels from around the world.

There were no yearly contracts, no cancellation penalties, or any of the complicated garbage that comes with signing up for a cable subscription. You were billed month to month and could cancel your subscription at any time. You were also able to test it out with a free 24-hour subscription.

  • GolTV English

  • Unimas, Galavision
  • Benfica TV
  • Football Report TV
  • FuboTV Network
  • El Rey Network

Fubo TV Channels

In addition to live matches, you could also get access to club videos, series, documentaries, news, and more. fuboTV is / was compatible with both Android and iOS as well as Roku and Amazon Fire TV; which means you’ll could/ can stream directly to your television!

Unlike some services out there that don’t provide quality streams, fuboTV gave you all your favorite matches in 1080p HD. No more pixels, no more blurs.

Here are the leagues you would get when you subscribe to fuboTV:

You’ll would also get access to several championships; such as the Copa America, Copa America Centenario, CONMEBOL, Football League Championship, English League Cup, and Swiss Super League.

FuboTV DVR and Apps

Afraid you’ll miss a match? Not to worry, fuboTV offered a DVR feature that allows you to record matches so you can watch them on-demand!

Great news for Apple and Amazon fans! The latest updates to the Fire TV and iOS applications came with some big changes. For the Fire TV app, you are able to make one-click purchase in-app purchases. You are also able to pause, rewind, and record live TV using a cloud-based DVR. The new iOS app also came with DVR features, as well as a few other goodies; such as chat features, picture-in-picture, and the ability to cast to your television using Chromecast.

The only bummer about fuboTV was that you could only stream one device at a time; which means you’re out of luck if there’s a conflict over which match to watch. Also, if you live outside of the United States you won’t be able to use fuboTV. But I’m just nitpicking here; fuboTV was / is still a stellar service.

Cord Cutting Soccer Fans Love fuboTV

What is Fubo TV

No more missed matches, no more taped delays, no more blurry images; just non-stop soccer ready at a moment’s notice. Let’s see Comcast do that.

March 2016 Update: And they continued to make updates. Just last year fuboTV solidified some partnerships that greatly increased their reach. Read “Whats new with fuboTV” to learn more.

So what do get for that $50 a month? Let’s take a look.

fuboTV Premier Packages

As you might notice when you go to sign up for fuboTV Premier, there are other subscription options available to you; such as fuboTV Latino. While these options are still valid and available, they will slowly be phased out over time so you might be better off going with Premier.

It’s also worth mentioning that many of the stations included in the other packaged are also available with Premier.

Another thing you will notice about the content selection is that is very sports-oriented. Let no one make any mistakes: fuboTV is primarily a streaming service for and by soccer fans. If you like baseball, can’t get enough baseball, obsess about baseball; this might not be for you.

Furthermore if you hate soccer, or sports in general, then this is also not for you. Services like Sling TV or PlayStation Vue can more than handle your online streaming needs. fuboTV is meant to bridge that gap for the rest of us that one to cut the cord but can’t give up soccer.

That’s not to say it’s all about soccer. As you might have seen, you still have access to networks like FX and MSNBC, so your entertainment and news needs are still met. You can also stream a fair amount of television and film on-demand; so it’s not completely bereft of non-sports entertainment.

fuboTV Premier Device Support

As far as device support goes, here’s what works with fuboTV Premier as of right now: iOS and Android, Roku , Fire TV,  Apple TV (gen 4+) boxes, Android TV, Chromecast, and your good old fashioned web browser. Sadly, if you stream through a gaming console, you are out of luck.

FuboTV Streaming Devices

So how does fuboTV Premier operate? The answer is surprisingly well. Regardless of whether you’re live-streaming or viewing on-demand, everything promptly loads with little wait time. The quality of the feed is, for the most part, pristine. I say for the most part because sometimes you will encounter frame rate issues and skipping from time to time.

However, the video quality issue can easily be explained by the internet connection itself, and not fuboTV (curse you Comcast!).

FuboTV Premier Overview

Overall, fuboTV Premier has a lot of promise packed into a little beta. For the soccer fans that sorely miss equal coverage in the US media, this is a golden opportunity to stay informed and up to date about the world’s most popular sports.

Ultimately, the biggest detraction from fuboTV is its price. If you ignore the early price discount ($34.99 monthly), then the prospect of paying $50 a month seems a little steep; especially when other services can offer wider coverage for a lower price.

If fuboTV Premier ever hopes of stealing subscribers away from Sling TV or PlayStation Vue, they are going to HAVE TO come down on the price. Otherwise, they’ll be stuck with a great service that’s priced itself out of the market.

That being said, for some this level of sports coverage is well worth it. If you are interested in learning more I suggest checking out their free 24-hour free trial.
