Amazon Originals Part II – the Hits Keep Coming

Amazon Originals

4 Can’t Miss Original Series Now Available on Amazon Prime

With the advent of online streaming, television channels are slowly becoming outdated. Sure, networks like AMC and HBO are churning out hits like Better Call Saul and Game of Thrones; but the majority of hot new shows have come straight to the consumer from streaming services.

With shows like House of Cards and Narcos, Netflix quickly comes to mind when thinking about original streaming content; but services like Amazon Prime have begun to give them a run for their money. Last year, The Man in the High Castle took the streaming world by storm and since then there have been no shortage of superior shows coming out of the Amazon wheelhouse.

Here are some of the best original shows that Amazon has to offer:

Hand of God

@HandofGodAmazon – Ron Perlman plays Judge Pernell Harris, a man on a mission from god; or at least that’s what his hallucinations tell him.  After Pernell’s daughter-in-law is the victim of a horrible crime, he slowly starts to descend into madness… and vigilante justice. This morally grey drama is a slow burning tinder fire that’s both explosive and dark. If you like tight writing and unpredictable turns check out Hand of God.

Betas

@Betas – Stop me if you’ve heard this premise before: a ragtag team of software developers struggle to find a deep pocketed investor that can help them get their app off the ground. Ok, so Betas’ premise is almost completely identical to HBO’s Silicon Valley but after that basic outline, the shows diverge completely. Betas is a light show with relatable characters and a very watchable premise. It’s HBO cousin may outshine it for the moment; but if you want to while away the hours, Betas is a good bet.

Sneaky Pete

@SneakyPeteTV – Have you ever wanted to just change your name and start over again in a new life? Former gangster Marius has, and in Sneaky Pete that’s exactly what he does. Assuming the identity of an old cellmate named Pete, Marius slips into his friends old life and gets into the family business. But how long can his secret last? Sneak Pete is superbly written, Giovanni Ribisi is absolutely perfect for the role, and you should definitely give it a close look. Personally, this is my favorite on this list.

Mozart in the Jungle

@MITJAmazon – While classical music has a reputation for being boring and stuffy, the musicians behind it are anything but boring. Nominated for two Golden Globes, Mozart in the Jungle follows the bawdy life of a conductor named Rodrigo as he pushes the musicians in his orchestra and contends with competing interests. Mozart in the Jungle is funny when needs to be and dramatic when it wants to be. If you like snappy dialogue, laughs, and something to try about then tune into Mozart in the Jungle.

Amazon Prime Original Series

Amazon is slowly building its reputation for producing quality shows and every year it seems they have topped themselves. It may be a while before Amazon claims the crown of Streaming King, but for right now I will be content to sit back and watch the streaming services try and top themselves.
